The Narendra Modi-led Indian government has accepted two more demands raised by young protesters who have been demonstrating over allegations of question paper leaks in the country’s medical entrance examination. The protesters’ group, Cakaroch Janata Party (CJP), said the government has agreed to withdraw all FIRs filed against demonstrators and provide honorary compensation to the families of students who died by suicide following the medical admission controversy.

Representatives of the CJP said on Saturday (July 25) that their demand to withdraw all cases filed against protesters �” not only in Delhi but also in BJP-ruled and allied states �” had been accepted by the government. They said the withdrawal process would begin soon.

“Our second demand was that all FIRs filed against protesters should be withdrawn. The government has accepted this demand as well. The process will be completed within a short time,” CJP leaders said.

They added that the government had assured them that copies of all FIRs would be provided to the protesters. According to their information, around 15 to 20 FIRs were filed in Delhi. The group expects to receive copies of the cases within three to four days and said the government has promised to provide a written guarantee regarding the withdrawal of the cases and future measures.

On the compensation issue, CJP leader Saurav Das said the authorities had assured them that families of students who died by suicide in connection with the medical admission examination controversy would receive honorary compensation.

The protests have continued for more than two months at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar following allegations of question paper leaks in India’s medical entrance examination. The protesters’ primary demand was the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, which was accepted earlier on Saturday. They had also demanded compensation for affected families, withdrawal of FIRs, action against police personnel accused of using force against protesters, and an apology from the government.
