$1 billion investment expected in Chinese Economic Zone: Finance Minister

 

Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Finance and Planning Minister said an initial investment of $500 million was projected for the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone in Anwara, Chittagong. However, total investment will eventually exceed $1 billion.

 

This statement was made by the Minister while speaking as a chief guest at the foundation stone laying ceremony of the Chinese Economic and Industrial Zone project held in Anwara, Chittagong, on Monday afternoon.

 

Minister stated that this investment marks a vital step toward achieving the national goal of building a trillion-dollar economy by 2034. He noted that the project will generate employment for more than 100,000 people.

 

Simultaneously, local supply chains and various service sectors will expand alongside the zone.

 

Furthermore, Amir Khasru asserted that the government is focusing heavily on deregulation to foster an investment-friendly climate. He remarked that Bangladesh is now open for business 24/7 and affirmed the government’s readiness to execute any policy adjustments necessary to attract foreign investment.

 

The event was jointly organized by the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) and Bangladesh CEIZ Company Limited. Among others present were Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Land and Hill Affairs Mir Helal Uddin, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen, BEZA Executive Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury, Chairman of Bangladesh CEIZ Company Limited Wang Benchian, MP from Chittagong-13 constituency Sarwar Jamal, MP Shahjahan Chowdhury, and Humam Quader Chowdhury.
