As per the Election Commission (EC) decision, armed forces will be deployed across the country for 13 days from December 29 to January 10 to assist the civil administration during the 12th parliamentary polls.

The Election Commission (EC) said this in a letter sent to the armed forces on Monday.

It said that armed forces will be deployed in all 300 constituencies to assist local civil administration under “in aid to the civil power” aimed at maintaining law and order during the national elections.

The armed forces members will be deployed in coordination with returning officers at different “nodal points” and convenient places in every district, upazila and metropolitan area, according to the EC letter.

An executive magistrate will accompany the armed forces, it added.

Meanwhile, on Sunday, President Mohammed Shahabuddin approved in principle the deployment of the army during the polls in a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal.

The 12th general election is scheduled to be held on January 7.
