Dhaka has called for enhanced cooperation with Algeria in the energy sector to help ensure long-term energy security, while also welcoming Algiers’ interest in expanding collaboration in hydrocarbons.
The issue came up during a courtesy meeting between Algerian Ambassador Abdelouahab Saidani and State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam at foreign ministry on Monday, according to an official press release.
During the meeting, both sides reaffirmed the longstanding friendship and steadily growing bilateral relations between Bangladesh and Algeria.
Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in trade and investment, particularly in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, pharmaceuticals, shipbuilding and manpower.
The state minister also highlighted the importance of strengthening collaboration in education and welcomed progress toward establishing a Joint Consultative Commission between the two countries.
The Algerian envoy reiterated his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation in key areas, including energy, education, agriculture and the recruitment of skilled and semi-skilled workers.
In addition, Bangladesh emphasized the need to boost people-to-people connections through cultural and sports exchanges, as well as exploring the possibility of a mutual visa waiver arrangement.
Both sides stressed the importance of regular bilateral engagement and high-level visits to further consolidate ties, with Algeria reaffirming its commitment to strengthening its longstanding friendly relations with Bangladesh.
