Local residents demand quick action

Commercial establishments are constantly being built in Panchlaish residential areas without complying with the law

Panchlaish residential area of Chittagong city is losing its residential beauty. On the surface, each house of this resident is turning into a commercial establishment. Every day one or the other business organization is being established. The parking space on the ground floor of the building is not excluded from this.
Although there is no commercial establishment in the residential area, numerous private clinics, hospitals, half a hundred diagnostic centers, community centers, banks, schools, grocery stores, laundries, salons, restaurants, ATM booths are being built in this area. People living in residential areas are in trouble. Because even though Panchlaish is a residential area, patients from all over the district and people from different professions throng here all the time.Residents of families living in permanent flats reported their insecurity.
According to the cabinet directive dated June 8, 2015, no commercial establishments can be located in residential areas. However, the number of commercial establishments in Panchlaish residential area is constantly increasing without any regard for that law.A house owner, who did not want to be named, asked, “How does one company get a trade license in a residential area, how does the CDA approve them, how does the public works accept these residents, whether they have a permit from the Department of Health and Environment?” Or they are building these institutions illegally by taking rent from the owner. The area is now becoming a security threat. The quality of life of the children in this area is becoming poor. They can’t play. Can’t walk full of life.
According to Panchlaish Resident Welfare Association, most of the commercial activities in this area are going on illegally. In this case, the responsible institutions are negligent. No one seems to be listening to them despite repeated warnings not to be a commercial establishment here.
At the end of 2013-2015, the Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) took the initiative to evacuate commercial establishments from residential areas after gas cylinder explosions, electrical short-circuits, electrical short-circuits, fires from warehouses and hospital equipment in some residential areas of the city, including Panchlaish, Katalganj.
CDA also raided some residential areas in late 2015 as commercial establishments were not moved despite receiving multiple notices. But for some mysterious reason CDA has not conducted any operation since 2016.

Granted, residential areas also have some commercial needs. For this reason residential, commercial, educational etc. zones are separated during planning, so that nothing else spoils the character of the residential area. But in Panchlaish residential areas of the city, commercial establishments are built indiscriminately.
Ali Hossain, another resident of Panchlaish Residential, said that the environment of the residential area is usually very quiet and safe. CDA approves everything here as required. For example, how many educational institutions there will be, how many commercial institutions and what will be determined. There is no opportunity to build any new commercial or educational institution outside of approval. He also said, we see that many commercial and educational institutions have been established in residential areas without permission. As a result of this, the transportation system and the sports of children and teenagers are being disrupted. Also, unplanned development of various structures in the residential area is destroying the residential environment.
The welfare association of Panchlaish residential area issued a warning by hanging banners not to set up commercial establishments and institutions in the entire area, but this warning was not heeded. It is known that a new hospital and Medicare hospital center of Epic will be opened soon. The people of the area are very excited about this.
CDA Chief Engineer Kazi Hasan bin Samsh said that this area has been approved as a residential area. If a commercial establishment is established there, the association will take action. Complain to us too. We are not getting any complaints from them. How can I take action if I don’t get a complaint?
