Court orders to confiscate ex-IGP Benazir Ahmed’s property

A Dhaka court on Thursday ordered police to confiscate all the moveable and immovable properties of former inspector general of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed.

Besides, the court ordered to seize 83 deeds of his properties.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Mohammad Ash Shams Jaglul Hossain passed the order after the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Director Md Hafizul Islam and also the inquiry officer of the matter, submitted an application in this regard, said bench assistant of the court.

The court also said 33 bank accounts including active 27 bank accounts of financial transactions of Benazir Ahmed will remain frozen.

Later, Md Hafizul Islam said as part of the investigation, the ACC submitted a prayer to the court on Thursday seeking to confiscate the movable and immovable properties in the names of former IGP Benazir Ahmed and his family members, and also freezing the bank accounts in the name of Benazir Ahmed and his wife. The court accepted the prayer of the ACC.

In the plea, the ACC sought confiscating Benazir Ahmed’s land in Gopalganj and freezing the bank accounts in his and his wife’s names.
