Prime Minister’s Adviser and Office Spokesperson Mahdi Amin has announced a government initiative to distribute jute-made school bags and uniforms to primary students across the country.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday (April 22) after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat, he said the program aims to promote locally produced goods among schoolchildren.
As part of a pilot project, beginning in July, two primary schools from each upazila will be selected and all class I students in those schools will receive jute bags and uniforms. In the first month alone, more than 100,000 students are expected to receive these twp items.
Mahdi Amin added that the program will be implemented jointly by the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education, the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, and the Local Government Division. The initiative will gradually expand to ensure that all primary school students receive jute-made bags and uniforms.
Meanwhile, Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives State Minister Mir Shahe Alam said a standardised uniform will be introduced in all primary schools.
