To strengthen road safety and improve transport management, the government has made the installation and operation of Global Positioning System (GPS) devices mandatory in all public transport vehicles across Bangladesh from Saturday (August 1).

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) announced the decision in a recent public notice.

According to the BRTA, the move is aimed at ensuring safer and more efficient road transport management through the integration of modern information technology into the country’s public transportation system.

The authority said the Road Transport and Highways Division issued a gazette notification on June 11, requiring all public transport vehicles to install GPS devices and keep them operational from August 1 onward.

The mandatory measure is intended to enhance monitoring, improve fleet management, and strengthen overall road transport safety.
