Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has dismissed concerns about militant activity in the country, even as police issued warnings over potential attacks by extremist groups on key installations.
Speaking at a programme on Tuesday, the minister said he does not recognize the notion of a ‘militant resurgence’ in the country.
”I do not recognize that term. There is no such activity in our country,” he stated.
”Some extremist groups exist in every country around the world. There may be such groups here as well.”
Salahuddin Ahmed added that the presence of radical or fundamentalist elements is not unusual.
While responding reporters, he said, ”There are always some radical forces and fundamentalist political groups–we are accustomed to that. But the term you used does not reflect the current reality of Bangladesh.”
