Over 9.4 million children vaccinated against measles: Dr Zahed

A total of 94,23,799 children across the country have been vaccinated against measles till Monday, amid a surge in infections, according to Dr Zahed Ur Rahman, Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister.

Speaking at a briefing on Tuesday at the Information Department’s conference room at the Secretariat, the adviser said the nationwide measles-rubella immunization campaign is ongoing. He emphasized that the government is making every effort to ensure that no further deaths occur from this preventable disease.

Dr. Rahman noted that by the evening of April 27, the campaign had reached over 9.4 million children. Despite these efforts, he acknowledged receiving reports of additional tragic child deaths from measles earlier this week.

”This crisis is not of our making,” he said, reiterating earlier remarks, ”but these deaths are unacceptable under any circumstances. We are committed to ensuring that not a single life is lost due to government negligence in preventing diseases that are otherwise avoidable through vaccination.”

He stressed that diseases like measles, which can be effectively prevented through immunization, should not claim any lives, calling such deaths deeply tragic and preventable.
