A viral video showed a man casually walked up to a police van and unlocked its latch, enabling several detained student protesters to escape in the Chembur area of Mumbai. The Hindu reported.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, July 22, during a student protest demonstration at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Udyan Chowk, under the jurisdiction of Chembur Police Station.

Police sources confirmed, around 700-800 protesters had assembled at the site. Police exercised restraint and persuaded the crowd to disperse from which, around 200 individuals were detained.

In the viral footage, a man is seen approaching the police van carrying the detained students, unlatching the door, and allowing several youths to jump out and flee while a young woman following the vehicle cheers.

Mumbai Police reported that 13 cases have been registered against 400 people between July 18 and July 22 in connection with the ongoing demonstrations on charges of unlawful assembly and violation of prohibitory orders.
