A shortage of gas at CNG filling stations triggered a traffic jam stretching about 10 kilometres on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in Comilla’s Daudkandi area on Wednesday morning.
According to highway police, long queues of vehicles waiting to refuel at operational CNG stations in Gouripur spilled onto the highway, disrupting traffic on the Chattogram-bound lane.
Drivers and passengers of both passenger and goods vehicles were left stranded for hours as traffic moved slowly.
Officer-in-Charge Prem Chand Kumar of Daudkandi Amirabad Highway Police Station said rain and the gas shortage had contributed to the congestion. He said police were working to clear the tailback and restore normal traffic flow.
