8 more children die of measles, symptoms in 24hr

 

Eight more children died from measles and measles-related symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours, while 1,185 new infections were reported, according to the latest data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Monday.

Of the eight deaths recorded during the period, one was a laboratory-confirmed measles case, while the remaining seven children died with symptoms consistent with the disease.

According to the DGHS, a total of 628 children have died from measles and related symptoms nationwide since March 15. Among them, 92 deaths were confirmed as measles cases, while 536 children died after exhibiting symptoms associated with the disease.

The health authorities also reported that 9,779 people have been confirmed infected with measles through laboratory testing so far. In addition, 80,104 patients with measles-like symptoms have sought treatment at hospitals across the country.

Dhaka Division has recorded the highest number of infections and deaths. The division reported 278 deaths linked to measles and its symptoms and 44,181 infections during the period.

The figures cover the period from 8:00am on March 15 to 8:00am on June 8, according to the health authorities.
