A Dhaka court on Sunday rejected the bail petition of former Somoy Television Managing Director Ahmed Zobayer in a case filed over allegations of fraud and forgery.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Rakibul Hasan passed the order after hearing the bail petition around noon.
The court had earlier rejected Zobayer’s bail plea in the same case on July 12.
According to the case documents, Syed Asaduzzaman filed the case against six people, including Zobayer, on May 10, accusing them of fraud, breach of trust and forgery. The court subsequently issued summons against the accused, asking them to appear by June 17.
As they failed to appear, the court issued arrest warrants against them. Zobayer and three other accused surrendered before the court on June 18 and sought bail. The court rejected Zobayer’s plea and sent him to jail, while granting bail to the other three.
The three who secured bail are Ahmed Rafid Kader Ribhu, Sheikh Mahmud Yasin and Sunny Chowdhury.
The two other accused named in the arrest warrants are Zobayer’s wife, Shamima Sultana Chowdhury and their child, Saraf Nawar Joyita.
