Body of missing tourist, Jawad-ul Islam Mahian, 24 was recovered from the Sangu River in Thanchi upazila of Bandarban.

Deceased Mahian’s body was recovered two days after the boat had capsized. He was the son of Helal Uddin of Maskanda village under Mymensingh Sadar upazila.

The body was recovered around 7:30AM on Sunday, 26 July from Sangu River.

According to the locals and public representatives, a 13-member team including Mahian reached Tindu through the Tindu road. Later around 5:00PM on Friday, they went to visit the Boro Pathar area on two engine boats. At that time, a boat capsized due to strong current of the Sangu River.

Other tourists on the boat managed to reach the shore. However, Mahian swept away and went missing.

A rescue team of eight members, comprising a three member diver team conducted a day-long search operation but failed to locate him.

Meanwhile, Mahian’s body floated to the surface at the river bank near Tendumukh BGB Camp this morning. Locals informed the BGB about the matter.

BGB members later recovered the body and took it to the camp. Currently, the body is in the custody of the Tendumukh BGB Camp.

Former Chairman of Tindu Union Mongpru Aung Marma said the missing tourist’s body floated up between Boro Pathar and Tindumukh around 7:30AM. Locals then informed the administration.

Station Officer of Thanchi Fire Service Piar Mohammad said the boat capsized on Friday afternoon. When the boat sank in the strong current, other tourists swam ashore, but Mahian drowned and went missing. His body was recovered this morning.

Thanchi Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Abdullah-Al-Faisal said the body floated on the water at Tindu and was recovered. BGB, local guides, and the Fire Service were present at the spot.

Police said the process to hand over the body to the family after legal formalities is underway.
