Dhaka summons Myanmar ambassador

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Tuesday summoned Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh, Aung Kyaw Moe over the death of two in Bangladesh by a mortar shell that crossed the border.

Bangladesh has strongly protest the incidents of violence in Myanmar that spill over in the border.

Director General (Myanmar wing) at the Foreign Ministry, Miah Md Mainul Kabir, handed over the protest note to Myanmar Ambassador during a meeting at the state guest House Padma in the capital.

Two people, including a Bangladeshi woman and a Rohingya man, were killed on Monday afternoon when a mortar shell fired from Myanmar exploded in Bandarban’s Ghumdhum union.

On Monday, Foreign minister Hasan Mahmud told journalists that Bangladesh has continuous communication with Myanmar. The Myanmar state minister for foreign affairs communicated with the Bangladesh ambassador on Monday.

Meanwhile, fighting between the Myanmar army and the insurgent group Arakan Army has been going on in the country’s Rakhine state. Many villagers left their homes to safer places as the sound of constant fighting on the other side of the border continued.

Mentionable, till Tuesday morning, a total of 229 border guards of Myanmar have taken shelter in Bangladesh. They have been disarmed and taken to Border Guard BangladeshÕs (BGB) custody.

Sources said that Myanmar has already started contacting Bangladesh to bring back its border guard members.
