BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was admitted to Evercare Hospital in Dhaka on Thursday evening.

A car carrying her reached at the hospital at 6:35pm on Thursday.

The BNP Chairperson’s press wing officer Shamsuddin Didar confirmed it.

He said the BNP Chairperson was taken to the hospital from her Gulshan residence for some physical examinations according to the decision of her medical board at about 5:15pm.

BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia returned to her Gulshan residence on January 11 last after staying under treatment at the hospital for more than five months earlier.

Her family submitted an application to the government to take her abroad for her advanced treatment but did not receive permission. In such a situation, three specialists physicians were brought from the United States on October 27 last at the Evercare Hospital for surgical procedures in blood vessels of Khaleda Zia who has been suffering from liver cirrhosis.

The specialist physicians who came from the United States were Dr Hamid Ahmed Abdur Rab, Dr Christos Savas Georgiades and Dr James Peter Adam Hamilton. The trio are the renowned physicians of Johns Hopkins University of the USA.

It may be mentioned that Khaleda Zia was sent to jail after she was convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust and Zia Charitable Trust corruption cases on February 8, 2018. She remained in jail for more than two years. Later, the government released her on conditions staying her punishment through an executive order on March 25, 2020. Since then the government has been extending her jail term suspension by six months.
