There may be bracketed party, but we’re main Jatiya Party: Chunnu

Jatiya Party (JaPa) led by GM Quader has termed holding a separate council by pro-Raushan Ershad group as ‘violation of the constitution.’

Mujibul Huq Chunnu, secretary general of this faction of JaPa, said on Saturday that another bracketed party might be floated, but “we’re the original Jatiya Party led by GM Quader.”

Pro-Raushan Ershad JaPa leaders and workers held a council at Institution of Engineers in Dhaka on Saturday. JaPa got officially split through the council though GM Quader led JaPa secretary general Mujibul Huq Chunnu said they were not giving any importance to the activities of Raushan Ershad led faction of the party.

Chunnu claimed that their party remained united under the leadership of GM Quader.

The rivalry between two top leaders of Jatiya Party — Raushan Ershad and GM Quader — is much old. However, pro-Raushan Ershad group became angry over GM Quader and Mujibul Huq Chunnu after they were excluded from the “nomination of consensus” with Awami League in the 12th parliamentary election held on January 7 last.

On the other hand, Raushan Ershad had refrained from taking part in the election as her son Saad Ershad was not given the party nomination in Rangpur. In sequel to it, rivalry in Jatiya Party began anew.

Declaring herself as the chairman of Jatiya Party, Raushan Ershad convened the council for Saturday. In presence of Raushan Ershad, the party got divided once again on Saturday.
