Muslims across Bangladesh mark Eid-ul-Azha with devotion, sacrifice

Eid-ul-Azha is being celebrated nationwide with the ritual sacrifice of animals in the name of Allah on Monday.

The festival falls on the 10th day of the Dhu al-Hijjah month in the Hizri calendar, commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his beloved son, Prophet Ismail, approximately 4,500 years ago. Prophet Ismail accepted his fate to please Allah, but in His mercy, Allah substituted a ram for the sacrifice.

To honour this historic event, Muslims across the country participated in congregational prayers and sacrificed animals in Allah’s name. They also prayed for divine blessings for the nation’s peace, progress and prosperity, as well as the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
The main congregation of Eid-ul-Azha in Bangladesh took place at the National Eidgah in Dhaka on Monday morning with the participation of thousands of people from all walks of life.
Led by Hafez Maulana Mufti Ruhul Amin, the first congregation started at 7:30am, with prayers seeking divine blessings for the nation’s peace, prosperity and well-being.
Dignitaries such as President Mohammed Shahabuddin, Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan, judges from the Appellate and High Court divisions, members of parliament, and DSCC Mayor Fazle Noor Taposh were in attendance.
Strict security measures were in place to ensure the safety of all participants. Authorities closed traffic at key intersections, including Paltan and Matsya Bhaban, by erecting barricades.
Meanwhile,Eid congregation was held in different areas of Chittagong metropolis.
Today, Monday (July 17) at 7:30 a.m., the first congregation was held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque under the supervision of Chittagong City Corporation (CHSIC). The second congregation was held at 8:30 a.m. At the end of the sermon, a prayer is made for the well-being of the country and the nation.
Apart from Jamiatul Falah, the city’s Laldighi City Corporation Shahi Jame Mosque, Hazrat Sheikh Farid (RA) Chashma Eidgah Mosque, Sugandha Residential Area Jame Mosque, Chawkbazar City Corporation Jame Mosque, Jahoor Hawkers Market Jame Mosque, Dakshin Khulshi (VIP) Residential Area Jame are under the supervision of Chasik. Eid Jamaat was held at 7:30 am in total 9 mosques including Arefin Nagar Central Cemetery Jame Masjid, Sagarika Garubazar Jame Masjid and Ma Ayesha Siddiqui Chasik Jame Masjid (adjacent to Sagarika Zahoor Ahmad Chowdhury Stadium).
Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury said at the end of the Eid congregation at Jamiatul Falah Maidan, we have prayed for the people of the country in the Eid prayer. I prayed to Allah for peace and security in the society. I prayed for our Prime Minister Bangabandhu’s daughter Sheikh Hasina.
He said, besides, I have prayed for the people of Bangladesh including Chittagong to get proper food, clothing, education and health care. I have also prayed that Allah Almighty will give the gift of sacrifice to everyone.
Chittagong district and session judge Dr. Aziz Ahmed Bhuya said, I will pray for Muslim brothers persecuted in Gaza. I will give up animality of mind through animal sacrifice. We will pray for those who are not present and those who are present and for the entire Muslim Ummah.

Chittagong District Administrator Abul Basar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman said, May Allah accept our prayers. I pray for the Muslim Ummah. I wish peace to the Muslim Ummah. May Allah Almighty accept their Hajj for those who have gone to perform Hajj.

At the end of prayer, devout Muslims are sacrificing animals according to their ability in the hope of getting the pleasure of Almighty Allah.
