Bailey Road fire: 39 victims identified, 33 bodies handed over to families

At least 33 people among the 44, who were killed in Bailey Road fire on Thursday night, have been identified.

After the identification of the bodies through legal procedure, the hand over process of the bodies started at around 2am on Friday..

A total of 33 bodies were handed over to their respective family members from Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery till 8am on Friday, said Mostafa Abdullah Al Noor, (Nezarat) Deputy Collector (NDC) in Dhaka.

He said that among the six unidentified bodies, five have not been claimed by anybody, and one is badly burnt, which will require a DNA test for identification.

He said that when family members identify the bodies, the authorities promptly handed over those to family.

He added that 10 critically injured people are undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit (ICU) at the burn Institute.

At least 44 people, including 26 women and three children, were killed and 22 critically injuredm in the blaze that broke out at a seven-storey building in DhakaÕs Bailey Road on Thursday night.

The death toll from the blazing inferno kept climbing through the night, and is likely to rise further.
