Barishal seal 1st title denying 5th of Cumilla

Fortune Barishal sealed their maiden trophy of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) denying Cumilla Victorians to make it their five.

Barishal managed a six-wicket win over Cumilla in the final game of the tournament at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur on Friday.

Cumilla, on the other hand, tasted the defeat in their fifth final after four triumph in this stage of the domestic tournament.

Earlier, Cumilla posted a challenging total of 154 runs before Barishal.

Being asked to bat, Cumilla started falling under pressure from the very first over as they lost wickets at regular intervals at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Mahidul Islam Ankon and Andre Russell led the team to go 154/6 after 20 overs. Jaker Ali added 20 runs on board.

James Fuller picked up two wickets for Barishal while Kyle Mayers, Mohammad Suifuddin and Obed McCoy got one apiece.

In reply, top three batters of Barishal took the game away from Cumilla as they overtook the target keeping six ball in hand.

Tamim Iqbal hit a 26-ball 39 while Mehidy Hasan Miraz scored 29. As usual, Kyle Mayers kept his form as he smashed a 46 run-knock from 30 balls to ensure the easy win.

Mustafizur Rahman and Moeen Ali earned two wickets each for Cumilla.
