Bangladesh Bank officials said it will not launch fresh investigation into former President Shahabuddin following his resignation.
Spokesperson and Executive Director Arief Hossain Khan made the statement on Sunday, clarifying that no new probe is currently under consideration.
However, he noted that the central bank would take action if evidence links Shahabuddin to any previously reported financial irregularity.
Previously, President resigned on Friday, stepping down nearly two years before his tenure was set to expire. He was elected during the Awami League government’s regime. According to the constitution, speaker of the Parliament has been appointed as the Acting President of Bangladesh.
Several political parties, including NCP, Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis and Inqilab Moncho have demanded Md. Shahabuddin’s immediate detainment and prosecution.
