Deputy Education Minister’s bank loan increased 10 times in five years.

Scrutiny of nomination papers for the 12th National Assembly elections has started in earnest. 151 candidates want to fight for the 16 constituencies of the commercial capital of Chittagong. Deputy Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury is among them. Barrister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel has submitted nomination papers for Chittagong-9 (Kotwali-Baklia) seat. He mentioned in the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission while contesting in the 11th National Assembly elections of 2018, that time his annual income was Tk 50 lakh 45 thousand 300. At that time, the income of his dependents was 7 lakh taka per year. In the span of five years, it can be seen in the affidavit dated November 2023, the annual income of the Deputy Minister of Education has increased to 79 lakh 28 thousand 728 taka.
In the month of November 2018, among the movable assets of the Deputy Minister, cash was 30 lakh taka, deposits in banks and financial institutions were 77 lakh 55 thousand 682 taka, bonds, debentures and shares of various companies were 8 lakh 39 thousand 949 taka. Postal savings, savings and fixed deposits were tk 37 lakh, gold and precious metals were tk 4 lakh and furniture was tk 5 lakh.
At the same time, his wife had 1.5 lakhs in cash and 1.4 lakhs deposited in banks and financial institutions. Besides, there was gold and precious metals worth Tk 10 lakh, electronic goods of Tk 10 lakh and furniture of Tk 10 lakh. At that time the deputy minister and his wife had no real estate.
According to the affidavit dated November 2023, the movable assets of the Deputy Minister include cash of Tk 32 lakh 50 thousand 94.No money is currently deposited in banks and financial institutions. However, there are bonds, debentures and shares of various companies worth 10 lakh rupees. In the span of five years, the amount of postal savings, savings certificates and fixed deposits of the Deputy Minister of Education has increased to 5 crore 65 lakh 17 thousand 412 taka and now stands at 6 crore 2 lakh 17 thousand 412 taka. Deputy Minister’s gold and precious metals and furniture remained the same while other sectors’ movable assets increased. There are 42 lakh 24 thousand 450 taka as investment in this sector.
At the same time, the movable assets of his wife have increased to 25 lakh 86 thousand 509 taka, including 8 thousand US dollars. At present there is no money deposited in banks and financial institutions but there are movable assets of 10 lakh 85 thousand 910 taka’s in bonds, debentures and company shares.
Gold and precious metals, electronics and furniture remain the same. However, there is currently an investment of 17 thousand rupees. Five years ago, the Deputy Minister and his wife had no immovable assets, but now the Deputy Minister has shown agricultural land worth Tk 4 lakh and a house of Tk 1 crore. Similarly, a building worth Tk 35 lakh has been shown in the affidavit in the name of the wife.
According to the affidavit, the deputy minister’s bank loan has increased 10 times in five years. In 2018, the bank loan was 32 lakh 35 thousand 335 taka. At present the bank loan is 3 crore 65 lakh 53 thousand 972 taka.
