Director General (DG) of Rapid Action Battalion M Khurshid Hossain said the fire that broke out at the seven-story Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall on Bailey Road was originated from the ground floor of the building.
RAB DG revealed the information at a press briefing at the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in the capital on Friday.
He said they heard that the fire erupted from the ‘Kacchi BhaiÕ restaurant but later came to know that the origin of the fire was from a shop on ground floor in the building.
Meanwhile, Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen informed the media that 46 people died in the devastating fire and the people, who are now undergoing treatment, are in critical condition.
The minister said the death toll from the blazing inferno kept climbing through the night, and is likely to rise further.
