NCP motorcade stopped again in Habiganj amid Section 144

Police has intercepted the motorcade of NCP at the entrance of Bahubal upazila in the district, despite the convoy overcame a police barricade in Sreemangal.

The convoy was previously halted in the Muchai area of Bahubal on Wednesday afternoon. Following the obstruction, NCP leaders staged a sit-in on the road and remained seated in the rain for an hour.

Habiganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Mohammad Tariq Mahmud stated that Section 144 was imposed in the district, and police blocked the convoy from entering Habiganj for security reasons.

Earlier in the afternoon, NCP Convenor and Opposition Chief Whip Nahid Islam MP, Chief Coordinator Nasiruddin Patwari, Northern Region Chief Organizer Sarjis Alam, Southern Region Chief Organizer Hasnat Abdullah MP, and Reserved Seat MP Dr. Mahmuda Mitu, among other leaders, left the Moulvibazar Circuit House for Habiganj around 4:00PM.

Police initially stopped their convoy in the Cha-Kanya area of Sreemangal at around 4:30PM before they breached the barricade.

NCP leaders alleged that activists from BNP, Chhatra Dal, and Juba Dal attacked their convoy in Habiganj town on Tuesday following a program.

Several were injured in that attack.

In response to the growing tension, local administration imposed Section 144 in the Habiganj municipal area on Wednesday morning.

Additionally, three platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) were deployed to maintain law and order.

Meanwhile, Habiganj District Jubo Dal Member Secretary Safiqur Rahman Situ rejected unparliamentary remarks made by NCP leaders against senior political figures, while urging all parties to maintain political courtesy.

Haji Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zahidul Haque confirmed that no case was filed regarding Tuesday’s incident, adding that the situation currently remains peaceful.
