Former US President Donald Trump’s lawyers have once again appealed to the Supreme Court seeking to overturn a jury verdict ordering him to pay $83.3 million in damages to writer and columnist E. Jean Carroll in a sexual abuse defamation case.

Trump’s legal team formally filed the appeal on Tuesday, arguing that the compensation ruling should be overturned. The lawyers had previously submitted a similar request to the Supreme Court in June, but the nation’s highest court rejected the appeal at that time.

Carroll sued Trump in 2019, alleging that he sexually assaulted her in 1996 inside a dressing room at the Bergdorf Goodman department store in Manhattan, New York. A lower court ruled in 2023 that Trump must pay Carroll $83.3 million in damages.

Trump later challenged the decision in a federal appeals court, but the ruling was upheld. In 2025, his lawyers approached the Supreme Court, arguing that Carroll had already collected around $5.63 million from Trump since filing the lawsuit.

They sought to have the compensation order overturned, claiming the amount was excessive. However, the appeals court ruled that Trump had paid only a small portion of the total damages and that the remaining amount must still be paid.

Trump’s lawyers filed another appeal last month seeking to reverse the decision, but the request was rejected by the court. They have now returned to the Supreme Court with a fresh appeal.

Reuters reported that it contacted the US Department of Justice for further comments on the matter, but no spokesperson was willing to comment.
