Law enforcers have arrested Mobarak Hossain Emon,
also known as David Emon, a notorious figure and leading terrorist of
Chattogram, from Jhikargachha border area under Jashore district while they
were reportedly attempting to flee to India.
Alongside him, three accomplices were also taken into custody, Chattogram
District Police Superintendent (SP) Md. Masud Alam confirmed.
The arrests occurred around 3.45 am on Wednesday, from the area of Jashore,
stating, “Terrorist Emon has been captured along with his three accomplices,
all of whom are identified as shooters.”
He elaborated, “Acting on intelligence reports, David Emon was detained along
with his three cohorts at the Jhumjhumpur border area after a check post was
established in Jhikargachha, Jashore. A specialized team from Jashore
District Police conducted this operation with the support and coordination of
Chattogram District Police. The Jashore Police transferred the detainees to
the Chattogram District Police team at 10 am on Wednesday.”
The other individuals arrested include Al Islam Alif Tamal, Shamim, and
Safayet. According to police records, David Emon is the son of Md. Musa from
the Kanchannagar area of Fatikchhari upazila. SP Masud Alam stated, “Multiple
teams from the district police have been diligently working for an extended
period to apprehend David Emon and his associate Raihan.
Meanwhile, Raihan managed to evade capture during a separate operation in
Noakhali, but he will also be brought to justice shortly.” Devid Emon is
known to be associated with another prominent fugitive terrorist, Sajjad Ali,
also referred to as Boro Sajjad, who is currently at large abroad.
He faces at least 15 criminal charges against him. His name has frequently
surfaced in connection with various extortion and intimidation incidents in
Chattogram over the past two years. According to police reports, Devid Emon
is implicated in a minimum of 15 cases, including the double homicide in the
Baklia area on March 30, 2025, and the murder of the terrorist Dhakaiya Akbar
in the Patenga Samudrasaikat area on the night of May 23 of the same year.
Authorities have reported that Emon possesses between 15 to 20 firearms and
is proficient in their use. They alleged that he played a role in hiring
terrorists and procuring motorcycles for the Baklia double murder incident.
According to police officials, two individuals are currently at the forefront
of criminal operations in Chattogram on behalf of the fugitive terrorist
Sajjad Ali, also known as Boro Sajjad, with Emon being one of them.
Earlier, this group was led by Sajjad Hossain, known as Chhoto Sajjad, who is
now incarcerated. With his imprisonment, Emon and Mohammad Raihan have
assumed leadership roles. Raihan faces at least eight legal cases on various
charges, including extortion, weapon offenses, and murder.
SP Masud Alam indicated that comprehensive details regarding the entire
operation, including the arrest of David Emon, will be disclosed in a press
conference scheduled for tomorrow [Thursday].
The leadership of the group has transitioned from Chhoto Sazzad, who is
currently imprisoned, to Emon and Mohammad Raihanul Alam, who are now
allegedly in charge.
On July 13 last, an internet service provider’s office located on Bakalia
Access Road in Chattogram city was vandalized and robbed after its owner
reportedly declined to pay an extortion demand of Taka 2 crore.
The Digital Dot Net (DDN) and Exabyte office was specifically targeted, with
assailants stealing laptops, mobile phones, cash, and other valuables.
